Is James Wan coming back!?

Is James Wan making another movie set in the DC Universe? The director speaks on a potential return to the franchise following a chat with Peter Safran.

It seems almost silly to say that James Wan is one of the most accomplished directors to ever touch the DC Universe. The first Aquaman film made over a billion at the box office, even if the sequel didn’t manage to make back its budget. While the director has made his return to the world of horror, fans have been wondering if he’d ever consider coming back to the franchise under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership.

It seems as though James Wan has at least been in contact with the new leadership of the DC Universe. The director reveals that he has, briefly, spoken with producer Peter Safran. However, given he is taking a step back from directing in general, there doesn’t seem to be many plans for him to return to the franchise to helm a movie.

“I haven’t really,” Wan told Comicbook.com “Peter and I have just chatted briefly on the surface, but I’ve actually just taken a bit of a hiatus from directing and just taking a break for my mental health because directing just takes so much out of you physically and mentally and emotionally.”

“And so, who knows? Never say never. But for now, I’m slowly getting back in there. I tell you what I would be keen to do is, I love the idea of maybe getting back into horror.”

Is James Wan Making A New DC Movie?

Given James Gunn and Peter Safran have made it clear that they want a variety of genres in the new DC Universe, some have begun to wonder if James Wan may consider making a return to a horror-focused franchise. Even though The Trench was secretly a Black Manta movie, a horror movie based on those characters could certainly be interesting to see.

As for new characters that James Wan could tackle for the DC Universe, there’s no shortage of options. Etrigan has been a major player fans have wanted to see on the silver screen. There’s also been rumblings of a horror movie starring Plastic Man helmed by Darren Aronofsky. If those reports are false, it could be fun for Wan to take up the idea.

There are currently no Aquaman projects in development at DC Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
