Jamie Bell, who played Benjamin Grimm/the Thing in 2015’s Fantastic Four, has doubled down on the film’s disastrous reputation, warning fans not to revisit it.
The Fantastic Four reboot directed by Josh Trank lives in infamy amongst superhero movies. The ill-fated film failed to impress audiences, earning a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 9% and gaining a reputation as one of the worst superhero movies ever made. The reboot’s overly dark and joyless approach to Marvel’s first family, along with several ill-judged departures from its source material, resulted in a film that just failed to land.
Jamie Bell appeared in Fantastic Four as the Thing, opposite Miles Teller’s Mister Fantastic, Kate Mara’s Invisible Woman and Michael B. Jordan’s Human Torch. It’s safe to say most of the cast have gone on to do great things after Fantastic Four‘s poor performance. Michael B. Jordan even appeared in another Marvel superhero movie, joining the MCU and stunning audiences as the villainous Erik Killmonger in 2018’s Black Panther.
While speaking with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM radio show, Radio Andy, Bell talked about the disastrous Fantastic Four reboot. When asked if the film may be worth revisiting in light of the cast’s more recent successes, Bell doubled down and told audiences not to bother:
“We made a film together, the ill-fated Fantastic Four reboot, which was famously a disaster. I think it has about a 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes…
“No, I don’t think [it deserves a second look.] Save your money, save your time.”
Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios), Marvel Studios are planning another Fantastic Four reboot, set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film will be directed by Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Jon Watts.
