Sony’s newest Marvel film Morbius starring Jared Leto has received its official audience CinemaScore grade.
After numerous delays since 2020, Morbius has finally hit theaters. The Jared Leto film expands Sony’s Spider-Man Universe after the two Venom films, giving audiences a sense of Sony’s plans for the universe. Unfortunately, the film has received mostly negative reviews from critics, and although audiences are responding to it more positively in comparison, the response is still pretty middling, based on the official CinemaScore grade.
CinemaScore has revealed that the audience grade for Morbius is a C+. For comparison’s sake, both Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage received a B+ grade, whereas Sony’s previous films have received varying positive grades. Sam Raimi’s original trilogy of Spider-Man films received two A- grades for the first two films and a B+ for the third. Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man earned an A- while its sequel earned a B+. Jon Watts’ first two MCU films have received an A, while Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Academy Award-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse both received an A+.
According to its official website, CinemaScore has polled moviegoers since 1978 at major releases on opening night to collect demographic information and calculate a distinctive letter grade. Based on the from audience’s mixed response, who currently give the film a 69% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the ongoing box office performance for Jared Leto’s Morbius will be interesting to follow, given Sony’s plans for the future of this Spider-Man Universe.

Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
