The end credits scene for Morbius teases the future of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

After nearly two years of delays, Sony Pictures’ new film Morbius has finally hit theaters. The film, which stars Jared Leto as the titular character, is the third entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, following Tom Hardy’s Venom and its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. As this cinematic universe continues to expand, audiences are given a glimpse at what to expect in the future through end credits sequences.

MAJOR SPOILER WARNING FOR MORBIUS DOWN BELOW

After defeating his surrogate brother Milo (Matt Smith), Dr. Michael Morbius embraces his newfound identity as a vampire, while he remains unaware about the fact that Martin Bancroft (Adria Arjona) is still alive, awakened with vampire powers of her own. Following the film’s conclusion, we get our first end credits scene, in which we are reunited with Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton), who we last saw in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

It turns out that the spell cast by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) at the end of No Way Home transported him from the MCU and into Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. The second scene finds Adrian Toomes meeting up with Morbius, donning his Vulture suit, acknowledging that he feels that the webhead is the reason why he was transported into this new universe, suggesting they’d team up.

With the addition of Michael Keaton’s Vulture, it appears that Sony is taking advantage of some of the connective tissue from their collaboration with Marvel Studios. Currently, Venom, Morbius and Vulture are officially within this universe together, with films centered on Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web on the way. It wouldn’t be surprising to see if these plans eventually build up into a cinematic event in which these villains unite against Spider-Man. Now, it remains to be seen which variant of the webhead lives in this universe, but some are willing to bet that we may be seeing the return of Academy Award-nominee Andrew Garfield in the role after his acclaimed performance in No Way Home.

Here is the synopsis for Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.

Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Tyrese Gibson, and Michael Keaton. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
