Sony’s official Twitter account has responded to the fan campaign to get The Amazing Spider-Man 3 with Andrew Garfield made though it may not be in the way you expect.
When Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man films were released they were not particularly well-received. At the time of their release, they were generally considered to be, at best, inferior to the Sam Raimi films and were noted for simply being made so Sony could hold on to the rights to the character. The second film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to meet Sony’s financial expectations and did not wow critics at all. This eventually resulted in the cancelation of the Amazing films and the start of Tom Holland’s version of the character being introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Since Andrew Garfield’s last appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, many have opted to reevaluate the films. This was helped by his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home where both he and original star Tobey Maguire reprised their roles. Since then, fans have been campaigning for Sony to give Andrew Garfield a third solo film that would wrap up his Amazing story. Sony has, thus far, not announced any plans for a third film, and Garfield himself currently has no plans to return. But now Sony has given some kind of response.
In a recent post, Sony’s official Twitter account responded to the campaign in a joking manner, noting that they do not decide what films get made while promoting the home release of Spider-Man: No Way Home:
Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:
For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire.
