Jared Leto confirmed the existence of the multiverse in the latest Morbius featurette.
That multiverse, so hot right now! After the events of Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home, all anyone can talk about is the potential of the multiverse and the various opportunity it affords our favorite characters. All eyes are currently on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is set to tackle the chaotic events of the last Spider-Man film. However, Jared Leto’s debut as Morbius is set to hit cinemas just a few weeks before the Doctor Strange sequel and it looks like the multiverse is part of his romp as a vampire.
While Morbius formally exists in Sony’s Spider-Man universe alongside Venom, the events of Spider–Man: No Way Home saw Tom Hardy’s symbiote get folded into the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to the multiverse. Morbius and Venom are explicitly tied (the featurette below has a brief but not-so-subtle nod to the Tom Hardy character) so it makes sense that Jared Leto’s debut will feature the multiverse.
But nothing is greater than confirmation as Jared Leto name-dropped the multiverse in the latest featurette for Morbius, teasing “all kinds of opportunities for villains to meet up.” Will Venom show up? Or better yet, will Spider-Man show up? Only time will tell what the good folks at Sony have cooked up for us!
Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
Morbius is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on April 1, 2022.
