The character identity of Matt Smith in Jared Leto’s Morbius has been revealed.
Ever since he was first cast alongside Jared Leto in Sony Pictures Entertainment’s upcoming Marvel Comics film Morbius, some have speculated that Matt Smith would be playing Loxias Crown AKA Hunger as seen from the comics. As it turns out that’s not the case.
According to some production notes on Morbius, Matt Smith‘s character is named Milo. The notes describe Milo as “the scion of a very, very, very rich family grown into a man determined to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life while he can – mostly by spending his money to live the high life in New York.”
In the film, it appears that both Jared Leto‘s Morbius and Matt Smith’s Milo struggle with the same affliction, with Morbius “afraid of his powers” while Milo is one that “embraces them.” Based on the notes, it appears that Matt Smith’s Milo is a combination of Loxias Crown and Emil Nikos, the latter of whom was a childhood friend and victim upon Morbius’ transformation.
Here is the synopsis for the film:
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.
Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
Morbius is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on April 1, 2022.
