It's *not* Morbin' time...

Jared Leto’s Morbius flopped at the box office again following a re-release triggered by viral memes.

After numerous delays, Sony Pictures released Morbius, their latest entry in their Spider-Man Universe spinoff films centered on villains back in April. The film, which stars Jared Leto in the titular role received negative reviews from critics, and has disappointed at the box office. As a result of the film’s poor reception, the film has been subject to an ironic meme on the internet, with the fake quote, “It’s Morbin’ time!” dominating online.

No Morbillions for Morbius.

Well, viral memes have led Sony Pictures to release Morbius back into over 1000 theaters this weekend. Unfortunately, this only led to the Jared Leto film to bomb at the box office once again, with the film only making $85,000 on Friday June 3.

Morbius has now grossed $73.6 million at the domestic box office, and has a worldwide total of $163.4 million. The Jared Leto film has certainly underperformed, and Sony’s hopes for expanding it within its Spider-Man Universe with a sequel seem to be dashed a bit, especially when compared to the success of Tom Hardy’s two Venom movies.

Here is the synopsis for Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach produced the project with Lucas Foster, with Palak Patel overseeing it for Sony.

Morbius is back in theaters, available on Digital, and will hit DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD on June 14. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news regarding Jared Leto’s Living Vampire, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
