Jason Momoa’s ‘Aquaman 2’ Gets New Release Date

Good news for Aquaman fans!

James Wan Jason Momoa Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Fast X

Warner Bros. has announced that the release date for the highly-anticipated DC Universe sequel Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom has been shifted forward by five days. Originally set to hit theaters on December 25, 2023, The Lost Kingdom is now being released on December 20th.

Fans of Aquaman will likely be delighted by the announcement, as it means they will be able to see the upcoming DC Universe movie five days earlier than expected. The shift in the release date also suggests that Warner Bros. has high hopes for the film and is keen to capitalize on the lucrative holiday box office period.

With Henry Cavill’s Superman and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam no longer in the DC Universe, Jason Momoa recently assured fans that he is still attached to the role of Arthur Curry, a.k.a. Aquaman. However, Momoa also hinted that he could play other DC Comics characters down the line.

Jason Momoa made his debut as Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which opened in theaters in March 2016. The following year, Momoa was featured alongside the rest of the DC Universe heroes in Justice League, before reprising the role for his Aquaman standalone movie, which is the highest-grossing DC Comics feature to date. His character will next be seen in Aquaman and the Last Kingdom, which arrives this Winter.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

The FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
