Is Lobo the key to the DC Universe? Jason Momoa speaks on his future as the character following his upcoming debut in the Supergirl film.
After, quite literally, years of waiting, Jason Momoa has finally made his debut as Lobo in the DC Universe. And while the exact design that they gave the character in Supergirl has been a tad bit controversial, it’s clear that most fans are ecstatic at the actor finally taking on one of the roles that he was seemingly born to play.
And it seems as though Jason Momoa is just as excited as fans. When speaking about his role in Supergirl with Screenrant, the actor reiterated that it was truly a dream for him to bring Lobo to life. He also teases that his first scene as the Beloved Bastich may be one of the most insane to appear in the DC Universe so far.
“When I got to step into Lobo, I mean, that was a pinch me moment. And my first scene is pretty gnarly. I’m pressed to see another actor pull off that first take, what we did. I’m excited to talk about it because it’s hard. And I grabbed it with gusto and I’m very excited about it.”
Jason Momoa’s Future As Lobo
Many fans see Lobo’s inclusion in Supergirl as akin to Supergirl’s inclusion in Superman. Specifically, there’s a belief that his role is only meant to set up a future DC Universe project where Jason Momoa takes center stage as the Main Man. However, his future as the character may not be as clear-cut as some people might think.
“I only know Lobo’s in this one, and so we’ll see what the future of all that holds. I would love for his own thing to be coming out. I’m pretty excited.”
Given Jason Momoa is a very billable action star, it wouldn’t exactly be shocking for him to have a solo project as Lobo sometime in the future. Though with the DC Universe focusing on “stories first,” it may take quite some time to find the perfect script for the character following his debut in Supergirl later this year.
Supergirl is set to release on June 26, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
