Jayme Lawson, recent graduate of The Julliard School in New York has joined the cast of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and it looks like we may know what character she will play.
According to io9, Jayme Lawson will play a character named Bella, in what many Twilight fans at first glance would take as a sly nod to new Batman star Robert Pattinson’s previous work as Edward Cullen alongside Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan. Thankfully, Jayme Lawson’s Bella is nothing like the Twilight character because according to io9’s source, Bella is “a grassroots political candidate running for office in Gotham.”
More details regarding Jayme Lawson’s role in The Batman remain under wraps, but the role is described to be “substantial” for the upcoming film. Based on the description of Bella, it appears that a political race may be part of the story of The Batman, which is expected to explore Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne at the earlier stages of being the Caped Crusader.
Some have speculated that Jayme Lawson would be playing Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon, whom will be portrayed by Westworld star Jeffrey Wright. While the character description of Bella may dispel those speculations, plans regarding the rest of the Batman family for Matt Reeves’ upcoming film remain a mystery, leaving their future open to more possibilities.
