Is Jeffrey Wright hanging up the ‘stache as Jim Gordon? The actor speaks on potential plans for a cameo in The Penguin and a long-awaited update on The Batman Part II.

The Penguin was a show that tried to keep itself contained to its own corner of The Batman universe. However, one fun cameo did break through in the form of GCPD chief of police Mackenzie Bock. This led many to wonder if Jeffrey Wright was initially meant to make an appearance as Jim Gordon. While Wright debunked this rumor, he did provide hope he might return in a potential season 2.

“There was no talk of my being in this first season.” Wright explained in a recent talk with Inverse. “Who knows? We’ll see what happens down the line, but I’m juggling enough balls as it is.”

While it’s a shame that Jim Gordon was never considered to appear in The Penguin, it’s certainly true that Jeffrey Wright has been juggling a rather full plate in recent years. It also makes sense narratively, as any cameo by Jim Gordon would’ve logically meant that Batman himself might appear. However, it seems The Batman Part II might not be appearing in theaters anytime soon.

Is Jeffrey Wright Returning In The Batman Part II?

Ever since The Penguin wrapped its freshman season, fans have been frothing at the mouth for any news on The Batman Part II. While the cast and crew have been mostly silence on the prospect, Jeffrey Wright did give an update to fans about his involvement as Jim Gordon. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like the project is set to start filming anytime soon.

“I’m excited about getting back there, but you probably know as much as I know. I haven’t read anything. I haven’t talked to Matt for a while. He’s been off doing his thing, I’ve been off doing mine. But I look forward to getting back there…There’s a lot to explore. I think the vision that [Reeves] has of Gotham is a really wonderful one, really rich and kind of grimy in the best way.”

This update from Jeffrey Wright comes off news that Robert Pattinson will be acting in Christopher Nolan’s film during the same window The Batman Part II was expected to film. Many thought that The Penguin was simply a taste to hold fans over until the sequel starts filming proper. However, it now seems that it may be the fullest course they’ll be getting for quite some time.

The Penguin is now streaming on HBO. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe and make sure to stay tuned to our YouTube channel for more content.
