The Boys and Supernatural actor, Jensen Ackles, has revealed he would like to play Batman in live action, with his sights possibly set on an appearance in Gotham Knights.

Jensen Ackles is due to appear in the next season of The Boys as the Captain America-inspired Soldier Boy, but he was recently asked about stepping into the world of DC’s Dark Knight. Ackles is no stranger to Batman, having previously voiced the character in the animated film Batman: The Long Halloween, and it looks like he’s ready to make the leap to live action as Gotham’s premier vigilante, with sights set on The CW’s Gotham Knights.

Speaking to fans at Creation Entertainment’s Supernatural Convention in New Jersey, Jensen Ackles was asked who he would play in the Batman universe. The actor was pretty resolute in his answer, telling the audience: “Well, I mean, Batman… Let’s be clear about that.” He went on to say:

“I mean, I’ve gotten to do the voice. Why not get to play the Bat? Maybe someone over at Gotham Knights could put in a good word for me if that role ever comes up. I don’t know that it will though, because they’re pretty particular about that.”

Ackles was likely referencing Warner Bros.’ apparent stipulation that Batman cannot appear (save for a few obscure flashbacks in Batwoman) in their programming on The CW. He also may have missed his window of opportunity, as earlier reports indicated Gotham Knights has already been filming scenes with an actor playing Bruce Wayne. After already making his mark as the Dark Knight in Batman: The Long Halloween, should an opportunity to take on the role in live action ever come up, Jensen Ackles would certainly be well placed to take on the task.

Here is the premise for The CW’s Gotham Knights pilot:

In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.

Written by Batwoman‘s Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams, the pilot will star Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row, Misha Collins as Harvey Dent, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, and Rahart Adams as Brody.
