Did Robert Downey Jr. keep his fellow Avengers in the dark? Jeremy Renner gives his thoughts on the star joining the Avengers: Doomsday cast as Doctor Doom.

Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Doctor Doom was one of the most shocking pieces of news to ever hit the Marvel universe. With Avengers: Doomsday already ramping up to start filming next year, fans have been looking to see if other Marvel actors knew the secret. According to Jeremy Renner, though, they were all in the dark!

“I had no idea. The son of a bitch didn’t say anything to me,” Renner told US Weekly in a recent chat. “We’re good friends. There’s the Avengers family chat. The original six. He said not a peep. I got online and started blowing up his phone like, ‘What’s going on? You’ve been hiding this from us the whole time?’ It’s exciting news. I’m really, really excited about it.”

It’s interesting that Marvel even kept the other founding Avengers in the dark about Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom. Though it’s also good that Jeremy Renner seems to be in good spirits about the situation surrounding Avengers: Doomsday. In fact, he seems more ready than ever to join the cast of the upcoming film himself!

Jeremy Renner Speaks On Potential Avengers: Doomsday Return

Given Jeremy Renner’s life-threatening accident at the start of 2023, fans weren’t sure if he’d ever return to the Marvel universe in the capacity of an Avengers film. However, it seems the Hawkeye actor is ready to get back in the saddle. While he isn’t positive he’ll be joining the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, he thinks Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom is a good sign he might return!

“You got Downey back in the mix, you got the Russo Brothers back in the mix,” Renner explained. “This is a direction where Marvel is going to do well. The Avengers movies have always been fan favorites and there’s so many wonderful characters in them. It’s going to be challenging to get everyone together. But I am excited about it. We’ll see. I think we’ll probably be doing it. It’s all brand new. They just made the announcement. They got to start figuring it out.”

Marvel is poised to make Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars their biggest projects ever, celebrating everything within and outside of the MCU. With how big of a role Robert Downey Jr. is playing in the project as Doctor Doom, it’s almost certain that Jeremy Renner and the rest of the original Avengers will make their return. The only question is will they be good, or EVIL!?

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in May 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
