Is Hawkeye finally making a return for season 2? Jeremy Renner gives his thoughts on why the Disney Plus series worked as well as it did.
The story of Hawkeye season 2 is a tumultuous one. The rumor mill started spitting out reports that the show was aiming to return basically as soon as the first season ended. However, things became complicated when the show’s star, Jeremy Renner, suffered a near-lethal injury while riding a snow plow. Things didn’t look much better once he recovered, with him calling out Marvel Studios for offering him a lower contract which he claimed was due to his injury.
Yet it seems Jeremy Renner’s relationship with Disney may finally be on the mend. When speaking about the potential for a Hawkeye season 2, the actor explained that the prospects are once more looking up; meaning it may not be long before fans see the Bird Eyed Avenger return on the small screen.
“We got to where we’re trying to do the second season,” Renner explains to The Playlist. “And I think I’ll get strong enough to be able to do it. And we’ll work it out. It’s gonna be great.”
Why Hawkeye Worked On Disney Plus
Even though Hawkeye is far from the most beloved series on Disney Plus, it was certainly memorable enough for fans to want more. The show came out nearly four years ago, and fans are still clamoring for a season 2. Continuing on about the project, Jeremy Renner believes that it worked because it allowed Clint Barton to return to what matters most: his family.
“I really enjoyed doing the series version. Because it was a bit more intimate and had the family dynamic, which is always a huge part of him. I think Clint’s superpower is the human side — he’s a superpowerless superhero. He’s one of the few, but I think his superpower is that sort of grit of the human condition and his loyalty and family.”
“It’s like, otherwise, what are you fighting for? We’re fighting for that love and that loyalty of family. And so exploring that was always great. And then there’s the Christmas theme — being in New York, that was great too.”
