Are the Defenders making a comeback? Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane speaks on Jessica Jones’ return, and if she’ll be joined by any other hero.
Marvel fans are incredibly excited to see Krysten Ritter reprise her iconic role in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. However, when it was announced that Jessica Jones would be making a return, fans began to question if the series had any plans of bringing back the other Defenders. Namely, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist.
Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane recently addressed the decision to bring Jessica Jones back in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. He explained that working on a series with this short of a season order makes space for new characters tight, but he knew he had to make room for his favorite member of the Defenders.
“We want to just at least be thoughtful with the limited time that we have, but be thoughtful with why they’re here and why they’re returning and where they’ve been and establish them in the context of this world.”
“When you’ve got eight episodes per season, you run out of real estate really fast. Really fast in terms of all the different people we would love to do stories with. And both Sana [Amanat] and I are diehard [Jessica Jones] fans from way back.”
Will The Defenders Return In Daredevil: Born Again?
When reading that, it’s easy for fans to notice that Dario Scardapane didn’t say the other Defenders WON’T return down the line – just that space in the series was tight. When pressed on if any other heroes could return alongside Jessica Jones, the showrunner simply said that fans will have to see how the story evolves in Daredevil: Born Again season 2.
“That’s not really up to me. Jessica’s with us because Jessica’s awesome and you’ll see in this story what that means. Did I dodge that good enough?”
By Dario Scardapane saying “it’s not up to me,” it’s likely that the showrunner is talking about inheriting Daredevil: Born Again from another creative team, with season 2 focusing on wrapping up their storylines while still fitting within the larger Marvel plan. Though with season 3 being in his full creative control, it’s certainly possible that other Defenders return alongside Jessica Jones.
