Fans have their first details on the Jimmy Olsen show! Series helmer Dan Perrault reveals the series’ genre and teases a new title for the project.

A spin-off series centered around Jimmy Olsen was one of the first truly new announcements fans got out of the DC Universe. Despite this, details on the project have been kept close to the chest, with the only pieces of information fans have being that Gorilla Grodd is involved, and the title is going to be DC Crime (though this concept was later debunked).

Luckily, as the series seems gearing up to film, details are now starting to trickle out from the trades. Variety recently put out a report on the upcoming spin-off and, while most of it was stuff fans already knew, it did confirm that the series would focus on Jimmy Olsen (and the rest of the Daily Planet gang) investigating supervillains like Gorilla Grodd.

What Is The Jimmy Olsen Series Called?

Dan Perrault, who serves as one of the showrunners for the Jimmy Olsen spin-off, recently sat down with DC Direct to talk about the series. During the conversation, he confirmed that the project will be a “mystery comedy,” while also teasing that the show will be getting a new title somewhere down the line that isn’t “The Jimmy Olsen Series”

“It’s a different title that hasn’t been announced yet. We were tossing around some names last week. We really like, honestly, multiple of them, but all I can say is that it’s not called ‘Untitled Jimmy Olsen show.'”

“Well, it’s comfortable territory for Tony Yacenda and I. We’ve worked in this crime mystery comedy for a very long time…There’s definitely tools from that toolkit that we can apply here that I don’t think has been seen in the superhero genre thus far.”

Given how many comic book titles Jimmy Olsen has been involved with over the years, it’ll be interesting to see what they land on for the spin-off. Though, given the Daily Planet crew is set to play a large supporting role in the series, it’s likely that whatever title they go with will reflect it being more of an ensemble show.

The Jimmy Olsen series is currently in development for the DC Universe. Stay tuned for more news regarding the future of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe!
