J.J. Abrams recently revealed that he laughed when he found out that Snoke was going to die in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
There’s very little doubt that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the most controversial film in the Star Wars cannon due to director Rian Johnson’s various narrative choices. One of The Last Jedi‘s vilified moments was when Supreme Leader Snoke was murdered by Kylo Ren halfway through the film. In J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Supreme Leader Snoke was set up as a villain that would rival Emperor Palpatine. In much of the marketing for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Snoke was focused on as the main villain that Rey would be stepping up against.
When speaking with Rolling Stone to promote the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, director J.J. Abrams discussed his reaction to Snoke’s death in The Last Jedi.
“When I read his first draft, it made me laugh, because I saw that was his take and his voice. I got to watch cuts of the movie as he was working on it, as an audience member. And I appreciated the choices he made as a filmmaker that would probably be very different from the choices that I would have made. Just as he would have made different choices if he had made Episode VII.”
It’s good that know that J.J. Abrams can at least appreciate the choice of killing Snoke, which certainly left many puzzled when they walked out of The Last Jedi. Snoke’s death in The Last Jedi certainly made Star Wars fans question what would be the next steps for a franchise that had just one movie left and had already killed its supposed main villain. It turns out now that J.J. Abrams will be bringing back Emperor Palpatine for the final film in the Skywalker Star Wars saga.
Are you a fan of Snoke dying in The Last Jedi? Are you excited to see J.J. Abrams step back into the director’s seat for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker?
