A new set photo from Batgirl teases J.K. Simmons returning as Commissioner Gordon.
Production on HBO Max’s upcoming Batgirl film is currently underway. The highly-anticipated DC project will see Barbara Gordon spearheading her own solo production for the first time. Starring Leslie Grace as the titular DC heroine, the project is set to feature the return of J.K. Simmons’ Commissioner Gordon, who was last seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Though his role in the Zack Snyder film was brief, audiences were engaged in J.K. Simmons’ take on the iconic police officer. With Babara Gordon set to take center stage, it makes sense that her father is also in tow. It’s unclear how J.K. Simmons will factor into the Batgirl film but for now, we have our first solid look at the star returning as Commissioner Gordon.
A new set photo from the DC production shows J.K. Simmons fully decked out in a suit, prepping for a scene.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl, which is being planned as a movie for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. The two most recently directed the 2020 box office hit Bad Boys for Life and episodes of the upcoming Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the script.
DC’s Batgirl movie is set to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. Barbara was last seen in a live-action feature film in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, with Alicia Silverstone playing the iconic DC Comics character. J.K. Simmons also stars as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser appearing as the villain Firefly, and Michael Keaton as Batman.
Batgirl will hit HBO Max sometime this year. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on the upcoming HBO Max film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
