J. K. Simmons Is Signed On For More Spider-Man MCU Movies

J. K. Simmons has revealed that he’s signed on to reprise his role as Spider-Man character J. Jonah Jameson for future MCU movies.

There’s no actor more synonymous with his comic book character than J. K. Simmons, who has now played J. Jonah Jameson in two distinctively different Spider-Man universes. Simmons first appeared as the publisher and the bane of Peter Parker’s existence in the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man. The actor reprised his role for the entire Toby Maguire trilogy, becoming one of the series’ biggest highlights. Marvel agreed that it’d be hard to imagine anyone else but Simmons in the role of J. Jonah Jameson, so they brought him back for a cameo appearance in last year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Asked by EW if fans can expect him back for more Spider-Man movies, J. K. Simmons let it slip that he’s signed on to reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson for future MCU movies, but only if the studio wants him back.

“I don’t know if I would use the word expect. It’s great to have the opportunity, as these things evolve, to be one of the holdovers from the previous version.”

There’s no way that the MCU will disregard J. K. Simmons, whose new take on J. Jonah Jameson is more in the vein of a conspiracy theorist and blogger rather than a traditional newsman. That being said, it’s also safe to say that the actor won’t have as much of a large role in the MCU as he previously had in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films. Seeing as he was mostly relegated as a cameo, that too a shock-value inducing one, it’s hard to imagine this new take on the character becoming a focal appoint for the series. Regardless of how much he’s in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel, it’s still great to see him back doing what he does best: tormenting Peter Parker.
