Joaquin Phoenix is currently the odds-on favorite to win Best Actor at this year’s Oscars for his performance in Joker.

Joaquin Phoenix has had a pretty successful awards season, having picked up best actor awards at the Golden Globes and the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. However, the one award Joaquin Phoenix has never won in his career is an Oscar, despite being nominated three times in the past.

This year, Joaquin Phoenix is nominated for another Oscar, this time for his chilling turn as Arthur Fleck in Joker. Given his success during the award season, it’s no surprise that Bovada is placing him at -2200 odds to win the Best Actor award. For Best Picture, Joker is currently in fourth with +2500 odds.

Here is the official synopsis for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker:

Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

The 92nd Academy Awards will air February 9, 2020 at 8 EST on ABC.
