Joe Locke finally confirmed who he’s playing in Marvel’s DIsney Plus series Agatha All Along! The actor also revealed where he hopes the role takes him in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It’d be easy to say there was a lot of speculation about Joe Locke’s role in Agatha All Along. However, everyone immediately assumed he was playing the MCU’s version of Wiccan. The only question was when it would be revealed. And with the truth coming out at the end of the last episode, Locke was finally able to speak on taking up the mantle of the iconic character.
“The show starts with Billy being very much the familiar, the secondary to all the witches,” Locke explained in a talk with Entertainment Weekly. “Now we know he is also a witch, and that changes things. Also, we now know that he has the ability to cause harm to them. Therefore, he is now the most powerful person on the Road. What does that change in the dynamic of the group and how does that change the future of those relationships?”
“We talked a lot about playing with the gray area. At the end of episode 5, we don’t know what happens to those witches, but he’s not doing a good thing. We played a lot with, does that make him a bad person? Is he a good person? Which then draws parallels to the motherly figures in his life.”
“Wanda does evil things but isn’t necessarily evil. Agatha, questionably, is evil, but there’s more to that, as well. We know that he’s been lying to her, and we play a lot with those dynamics of how duplicitous he is. The facade of the fanboy teen, is that completely fake or is that actually still a real part of him? This is the stuff that I found so interesting in playing him.”
A lot of fans were concerned with how Agatha All Along was adapting Wiccan for the MCU. Yet with Joe Locke now revealing that everything before the latest episode was a facade, it’ll be interesting to see how the character evolves going into the final episodes of the show, as well as where that could potentially take him in the future of the universe.
Joe Locke Teases Wiccan’s MCU Future
It’s clear that Wiccan isn’t only going to appear in Agatha All Along. With Joe Locke being the rising star he is, and the character being a core member of the Young Avengers, it’s likely there’s plenty in store for him in the MCU. However, if it was up to Locke, he’d be in every single project Marvel puts out until the end of time.
“In my ideal world, Billy would become the next head of the Avengers and be in every Marvel thing ever, but there are higher things at play I had the most amazing experience filming on Agatha and being a part of the Marvel family and would love to do that until the day I die. But who knows? I don’t. I’m sure someone does.”
Given the MCU made Wiccan’s mother take a heel turn, it’ll be interesting to see if Agatha All Along follows a similar path with Joe Locke’s character. Then again, it’s entirely possible this is the first step in the long road of redemption for both characters. Only time will be able to tell which possibility turns out to be the truth.
