Joe Pantoliano hopes that he can make a return as Cypher alongside Keanu Reeves’ Neo in The Matrix 4.
The Matrix 4 started production earlier this year in San Francisco, only to be shut down due to the coronavirus. Warner Bros. has moved back several release dates, but the studio is keeping The Matrix 4 on its May 2021 spot for now. One of the most exciting prospects of The Matrix 4 is seeing the return of Keanu Reeves as Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, and potentially Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe.
Because of this, it will also be interesting to see how The Matrix 4 brings back Keanu Reeves’ Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity, who both died at the end of The Matrix Revolutions. Joe Pantoliano’s Cypher died in the first film, but the actor revealed in an interview with CinemaBlend that he has been campaigning for a return:
“Yeah I’d be interested. I doubt they’re going to be bringing me back. I’ve lobbied for it, believe me. I’ve sent little notes to Lana and asked her, to no response.”
