Joel McHale Cast As Starman In DC Universe’s ‘Stargirl’ Series

DC Universe’s Stargirl has found its Starman!

Variety is reporting that Joel McHale will play Starman in the Stargirl series being developed by Geoff Johns. McHale will play Sylvester Pemberton A.K.A. the Golden Age version of the character. McHale is an actor and comedian who is perfect to join a Superhero series of this stature with his charisma and presence.

The golden age version of Starman is described as: 

A courageous and confident superhero, Starman is a member of the Justice Society of America. He wields a mysterious anti-gravity weapon called the cosmic staff and has a longtime sidekick named Stripesy, who is better known as Courtney Whitmore’s stepfather, Pat Dugan.

Heres the official synopsis for Stargirl:

High school sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series premiering in 2019, produced by Warner Bros. Television, Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions.

Geoff Johns will write and executive produce the 13-episode first season of Stargirl. Sarah Schechter and Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti will also serve as executive producers on the series.

Stargirl is scheduled to debut on DC Universe in August 2019.
