A new Peacemaker behind-the-scenes featurette and poster for John Cena’s DCEU return have debuted a week before the series’ first trailer.
Peacemaker, one of the stand-out characters from The Suicide Squad, is set to get his own HBO Max series come this January. Set shortly after the film, the series focuses on John Cena’s maniacal and patriotic anti-hero as he carries out missions for Amanda Waller. The series will be the first serialized effort set in the DC Extended Universe.
The James Gunn-written and directed series will get its first trailer at next week’s DC FanDome, a virtual fan event that highlights all aspects of the company, including the ever-expanding DCEU. To tease the upcoming trailer, a brand-new behind-the-scenes featurette and poster were revealed for New York Comic-Con.
The behind-the-scenes featurette sees James Gunn, John Cena, and cast members from The Suicide Squad breaking down the DCEU character’s psyche.
While the featurette takes a serious dive into Peacemaker’s character, the poster highlights just how hilarious the character can be thanks to a hilarious phone number you can dial for a surprise.
If you try out the QR code, you’re taken to the official Peacemaker website where you’ll be greeted by the show’s official poster.
Here is the synopsis for The Suicide Squad:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid and Taika Waititi.
