Injustice 2 hit consoles in 2017.

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn revealed that Harley Quinn’s beach assault outfit was inspired by Injustice 2.

One of the most memorable sequences from The Suicide Squad was the beach assault, which kicked off the opening moments of James Gunn’s DC Extended Universe debut. The beach assault saw two teams infiltrating the island nation of Corto Maltese, with one unbeknownst serving as a distraction. The sequence made for a great introduction to the film’s chaotic, bloody, and dark nature, setting the tone for the next two hours. And for our returning characters, the beach assault made for a great showcase of new outfits.

During the beach assault, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn was sporting a tactile war-ready fit that featured her signature black and red colors. Quinn’s pig tails were also dyed to feature the colors. It’s a look that’s sure to be replicated for this year’s Halloween. And while it appears to be wholly original, James Gunn revealed on Twitter that Quinn’s iconic look was inspired by the fighting game Injustice 2.

The director also shared two other concept art images, with one showing Harley Quinn with cotton candy-colored hair, which she sported in 2016’s Suicide Squad. The images also show early designs of Harley Quinn’s dress, which she wears for the second half of the film.

Here is the synopsis for The Suicide Squad:

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid and Taika Waititi.
