John Cena Reveals He Hasn’t Spoken To James Gunn About ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2

Will he return?

Fans have been eagerly awaiting any news about the return of Peacemaker for season 2. However, Peacemaker star John Cena has revealed that still hasn’t spoken to James Gunn about returning to the DC Universe.

Peacemaker is one of the few projects set to survive the upcoming DC Universe reboot, with James Gunn confirming that he’s actively writing season 2 while working on Superman: Legacy. However, it seems not everyone was included in those conversations. John Cena reveals that, while he’s confident the show will return, he hasn’t spoken to Gunn about the project:

“Man, I hope we see more Peacemaker. I sure as hell had a fun time doing that,” Cena told Variety on the red carpet for The Iron Claw. “I know they’re shifting around some things around over at DC, but I know that James Gunn’s made some statements that we’re going in for [Peacemaker] Season 2, and what he says usually he does.”

“There was a time that we couldn’t talk to each other, given the nature of all things business,” he continued when asked about speaking to James Gunn about his return. “I’m glad that time is over. And once we could talk again, man, he’s my friend first and foremost, so I just welcomed him back to work and wished him well and we’ll play our cards beyond that.”

It certainly seems that, while John Cena may not be pivvy to all the progress behind the scenes on Peacemaker season 2, he’s confident that James Gunn will deliver the show in the way fans expect. It’ll certainly be interesting to see if Cena pops up in any other DC Universe projects following the reboot, or if the actor will stick to his own show.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
