Chris Evans has been playing the role of Captain America within the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011. It’s hard to imagine anyone else taking on the role but the audition process was filled with other actors including, John Krasinski (The Office, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi)
Krasinski appeared on Conan O’Brien and opened up about testing for the role of Captain America. He admitted that he loved superheroes and the Marvel movies but it wasn’t until seeing Chris Hemsworth that he realized he wasn’t the right actor for the job.
“It was a big deal for me because first of all, I love those Marvel movies, I love superheroes, I love imagination. So when they asked me to test, they actually allowed me to put on the suit, I was on a set, it was all very interesting. I feel like as I’m talking about this someone from Marvel ….I’m actually not suppoused to talk about this… but the only bummer of it was as I was putting on the suit and thinking this is so amazing; I got about right to my waist, I was still shirtless and feeling pretty good about myself – [keep in mind] I wasn’t 13 Hours [John Krasinski] yet. I felt pretty good. And all of a sudden, Chris Hemsworth walks by in his Thor suit and went, ‘Hey, mate.’ And I went, ‘I’m good. This is stupid [mimes taking off pants]. I’m not Captain America, it’s fine.”
While Krasinski didn’t get the role of Captain America, he will be playing Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan for Amazon. The series received a 10-episode order. Back in April, Ryan arrived at Amazon with a series commitment, the intention was to always move forward with a straight-to-series order.
Carlton Cuse, former Lost co-showrunner is helming the project along with writer Graham Roland, Platinum Dines, Skydance Media and Paramount TV. The first three scripts for the series were written by Cuse and Roland.
