John Williams earned a record 52nd Oscar nomination for his work on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Acclaimed composer John Williams has written the scores for all nine chapters of the primary Star Wars saga dating back to the original film in 1977, which won him the Oscar for Best Original Score. In fact, five of John Williams’ Star Wars scores have been nominated for Oscars through the years and today the renowned composer was once again recognized for his work on the franchise with an Academy Award nomination for The Rise of Skywalker.
This honor marks John Williams’ 52nd Oscar nomination and adds to an already impressive tally that makes the beloved composer the most nominated person alive. The only person with more Oscar nominations than John Williams is the late Walt Disney, who won 22 of the 59 Academy Awards for which he was nominated.
In addition to his win for the first Star Wars score, John Williams has also scored Oscar wins for his work on Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, and Schindler’s List. Furthermore, The Rise of Skywalker earned Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects and Sound Editing.
