The televised Johnny Depp/Amber Heard defamation lawsuit has produced a number of bizarre moments, the latest of which saw a witness vaping and driving throughout his testimony.
Johnny Depp, of Pirates of the Caribbean fame, is suing his ex-wife, the Aquaman actress Amber Heard, following an op-ed Heard wrote about experiences of domestic abuse. Depp claims that the piece implies he was violent towards her and that it has consequently damaged his career. Heard is counter-suing Depp for nuisance.
Alejandro Romero was amongst the witnesses called to the stand on Wednesday. Romero worked as the front desk attendant at the LA penthouse where Johnny Depp and Amber Heard had lived during their time together. Romero appeared in a pre-recorded deposition testimony, in which he appeared disinterested in the trial, telling Heard’s lawyer: “You sent me the papers to review, and I didn’t even want to review it because it’s been so long. It’s like I just don’t want to deal with this any more.”
Romero appeared in his car in the video and proceeded to start vaping as he was questioned about his interactions with Amber Heard. In footage that has now been viewed millions of times across social media platforms, Romero started driving off while still being questioned and Johnny Depp could be seen laughing at the footage. Romero even reiterated his aversion to discussing the case: “I’m so stressed out because of this, I just don’t want to deal with this anymore. I’m tired, I don’t want to deal with this court case, everybody’s got problems and I don’t want to deal with this any more.”
The defamation trial is being broadcast live on Court TV. The trial is also being live-streamed on Court TV’s website, though it is not available on any other online or streaming platforms. The trial is taking place in Fairfax, Virginia, and is expected to last several weeks.
