Warner Bros. Delays ‘Shazam! Fury Of The Gods’ To Avoid ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’

Avatar 2 will hit theaters on December 16th.

Shazam Fury Of The Gods Avatar 2

Warner Bros. has pushed back Shazam! Fury Of The Gods to make way for Avatar: The Way of Water.

On Wednesday, Disney showed off the first footage from the long-awaited Avatar sequel at CinemaCon. Off the heels of Disney’s presentation, Warner Bros. has now moved Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which was previously dated to come out on the same day as Avatar: The Way of Water on December 16, 2022.

The studio now revealed that Shazam! Fury of the Gods will no longer be released on the same day as Avatar: The Way of Water. The film will instead arrive a week later than Avatar 2‘s release and hit theaters on December 21, 2022.

Here is the synopsis for the first Shazam! film:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quick.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Hounsou.

The original film is available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit theaters on December 23, 2022, while Avatar: The Way of Water will arrive on December 16, 2022.
