The first reviews for Joker: Folie à Deux have hit the web! Does the Rotten Tomatoes score spell well for the highly-anticipated DC sequel?
Fans have been skeptical about Joker: Folie à Deux ever since it was announced. The first Joker movie was so unique and dark that many thought giving it a sequel would only cheapen what DC managed to accomplish outside of its shared universe. However, as more and more footage from the project came out, the tides began to turn as people became hyped about the musical project.
Though the film still has a month to go until release, DC fans were mostly making their judgments blind. Yet just today the first screenings of Joker: Folie à Deux were shown at the Venice Film Festival. While select early reviews have been mixed, the film finally has a Rotten Tomatoes score, with the film sitting at 60%.
The Uphill Climb Of Joker: Folie à Deux
Joker: Folie à Deux has a massive mountain to climb if it even wants to scrape the billion the first film made at the box office. Audiences are more skeptical than ever about superhero films, especially given DC’s recent history of flops. The sequel is also a musical (even if the director won’t admit it), which may turn off many casual moviegoers who are averse to sonic soliloquies.
However, the biggest hurdle Joker: Folie à Deux has to overcome is its budget. DC has been absolutely dumping money into their projects, with this sequel being no different. Reports indicate it cost as much as The Flash, much of this coming from the paydays of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix. Regardless of the reviews and Rotten Tomatoes scores, this movie has a lot to overcome to prove it
s worth existing.
Joker: Folie à Deux is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the sequel and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
