If there’s one thing you can say about the Joker, it’s that he’s an entertainer. Admittedly, a very dangerous entertainer. Maybe even deadly. But as Detective Gordon said at the end of Batman Begins, the Joker has a taste for the theatrical. And going into the Todd Phillips/Joaquin Phoenix Joker film, that definitely seems to be the case here not just with Phoenix shown a lot in clown makeup in some photos, but also from a new video that was shared on social media earlier this morning.
In the video, shared by Twitter user Mikhail Villarreal, we see Joaquin Phoenix standing on a staircase before a crowd that’s both cheering and brandishing signs. As the crowd continues to cheer, Phoenix bows to his audience twice and extends his arms as if preparing to welcome them into the greatest show on Earth. As the Joker, how could you do anything but that? As the camera follows him, Phoenix descends the stairs as the footage comes to quick close. Here, have a look at the bystander footage of the movie filming:
Everyone loves the #Joker 🤡

Admittedly, there’s not much to go off of from this one scene, the context of the scene, and what’s even happening at all, but at the very least, we do see that Arthur Fleck definitely knows how to keep a crowd entertained. What do you think of the set video and what are your thoughts on the film so far? And what how would you like to see Joaquin Phoenix look as the Joker in the end? Let us know in the comments below.
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker will be released on October 4, 2019. The cast currently includes Joaquin Phoenix, Marc Maron, Glenn Fleshler, Shea Whigham, Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Josh Pais, and Brett Cullen.
