Joker director Todd Phillips has reportedly signed on to co-write a sequel to the hit Joaquin Phoenix film.

Ever since Joker came out to great success, there have been rumors of a sequel and more DC films like it in the pipeline. Todd Phillips has denied rumors that he is working on a sequel in the past, but there’s been plenty of noise recently that suggests it’s happening. The Hollywood Reporter shared earlier this month that Warner Bros. was still developing the Joker sequel.

The Hollywood trade dropped in a recent piece that Todd Phillips has now signed on to co-write that Joker sequel. It’s unclear who Phillips is penning the script with, but he did write the first film with Scott Silver. There’s also no word on whether or not Joaquin Phoenix will be involved with the next Joker installment after his Academy Award-winning turn as Arthur Fleck in the first film.

What would you want to see out of a Joker sequel? Do you think it’s necessary? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below!

Here is the official synopsis for Todd Phillips’ Joker:

Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker is available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news surrounding the planned sequel from Todd Phillips, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content in the future!
