One of the most highly-anticipated films releasing in theaters this year is Disney’s Lion King, which will translate the beloved 1994 animated film into the live-action world. The film is directed by Jon Favreau, who also helmed the visually-incredible 2016 Disney live-action remake The Jungle Book.

This year is an exciting year for Disney fans because not only are live-action remakes of Lion King, Dumbo, and Aladdin set to premiere before the end of the summer, the long-awaited sequel Toy Story 4 is also finally going to hit theaters in June. The Lion King is sure to be a movie-going event unlike any other. Fans can check out the new trailer as well as a first look at Scar in the film below.

Although there are three Disney live-action remakes being released this year, this spot for Lion King further proves that the film will be very different from any other Disney movie releasing this year, as well as from any other version of this story including the animated sequels The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride and The Lion King 1 1/2. The franchise has also recently been revived in the form of the animated TV series The Lion Guard, which premiered on Disney Junior back in 2015 with an animated film that served as its pilot, before eventually continuing on as a full series in 2016.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Disney and the Jon Favreau directed The Lion King remake as soon as more information becomes available. What did you think of the new trailer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
