Could Jon Hamm have been a part of both Marvel and DC? The actor speaks on his history with superhero properties, as well as turning down the role of Green Lantern.
Fans have been wanting Jon Hamm to play a superhero for over a decade. There’s no end to the list of Marvel and DC characters fans have pitched him as, from Batman to Mr. Fantastic. However, it seems Hamm himself turned down one of his most popular fancasts: Green Lantern.
More than any Marvel character, fans have been calling for Jon Hamm to play DC’s Green Lantern ever since the horrendous film starring Ryan Reynolds hit the silver screen. However, according to Hamm in a recent profile in The Hollywood Reporter, he had no interest in playing the Emerald Knight, stating “That was one I definitely didn’t want to do.”
Jonn Hamm Bets It All On Marvel
It’s unfortunate that Jon Hamm didn’t want to play Green Lantern. While the actor is still open to joining a DC project, it seems he’s in active negotiations with Marvel. In fact, he’s actually turned down a secret part in a prior project because he’s holding out hope for a golden opportunity.
“…I’ve pitched myself for a couple parts of the Marvel universe,” Hamm explained in the same interview. “I don’t want to say what exactly, but it was a part of a comic book that I really liked. I was like, ‘Are you going to do this story?’ And they were like, ‘Yeah, we’re actually thinking of that.’ I go, ‘Good. I should be the guy.’ So maybe it’ll work out.”
Anyone familiar with Jon Hamm’s particular thoughts on Marvel and DC heroes knows that the character he’s talking about is likely Mister Sinister. The actor has been campaigning to play the villain for years and, behind Green Lantern, it’s one of his most prominent fan casts. Let’s just hope this one actually works out!
