Jonah Hauer-King In Talks For Prince Eric In Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’

Jonah Hauer-King is in talks to play Prince Eric in Disney’s upcoming The Little Mermaid live-action remake.

Harry Styles was originally courted to play the role of Price Eric in Disney’s upcoming The Little Mermaid remake, however, the former One Direction singer passed on the role. A shortlist for The Little Mermaid was later reported listing Jonah Hauer-King and Krypton star Cameron Cuffe up for Prince Eric after Harry Styles turned it down.

The Wrap is now reporting that Jonah Hauer-King has won the Prince Eric role and is currently in talks to star alongside Halle Berry in Disney’s The Little Mermaid remake. Jonah Hauer-King is best known for his role in A Dog’s Way Home and the upcoming Little Women remake. Filming for Disney’s The Little Mermaid remake is expected to begin early next year.

The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall from a script written by David Magee. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken will write new songs for the remake to be included alongside the classic tunes the latter penned for the animated version of The Little Mermaid. In addition to his duties as a songwriter, Lin-Manuel Miranda will serve as an executive producer alongside Rob Marshall, Marc Platt, and John DeLuca.

Disney’s original The Little Mermaid centered on princess Ariel, who longed to explore the world beyond the sea. After saving Prince Eric from drowning, Ariel turns to the sea witch Ursula and trades in her voice in order to become a human for the chance to meet the man she rescued.

The Little Mermaid remake is expected to go into production in early 2020.
