Could a Batman fancast finally become a reality? Jonathan Bailey suggests that he may be interested in dipping his toes into the DC Universe.
One of the most highly anticipated casting announcements for the new DC Universe is who will be playing Batman. It’s a heavy crown to wear, with the character being one of the most iconic superheroes in history. As such, the fancast circuit has been far from quiet in churning out their ideas for who should play the part, with everyone from Jonathan Bailey to Alan Ritchson being suggested as perfect fits for the Caped Crusader.
Many of the actors have actually spoken on these viral fancast posts. Brandon Skelnar said that he’d loved to take on the mantle of Batman, while Alan Ritchson suggested there may be another role in the DC Universe that fit him better. However, perhaps the most interesting reaction has come from Wicked star and PEOPLE Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive Jonathan Bailey, who played coy about whether or not he’d want to play the part.
“Would I do Batman?” Bailey asked himself on The Tonight Show. “I grew up with Val Kilmer, George Clooney, obviously Christian Bale, and Robert Pattinson. It’s a legacy. I think James Gunn is amazing. Who knows…”
Is Jonathan Bailey Playing Batman?
Even though Jonathan Bailey played coy when asked, his tone clearly indicates that he’s interested in playing the DC Universe’s new Batman. It’s one of the most coveted roles a male actor could nab in the industry, and likely comes with massive checks spanning decades. It’s no shock Bailey is leaning into things, especially considering how positive the reception to the fancast is.
However, as for whether or not Jonathan Bailey has an actual shot at playing Batman, that’s still up in the air. James Gunn has strayed away from appealing to the fancast circuit (for the most part). And, given how long the actor will be around the DC Universe, it’s possible that they’d want to bring in a cheaper actor to try to build them up rather than an established star like Bailey.
