Josh Boone Says ‘The New Mutants’ Nearly Crossed Into ‘X-Men’ Timeline

X-Men Professor X James McAvoy The New Mutants

The New Mutants director Josh Boone said that an early draft saw the film take place in the X-Mansion with key X-Men characters returning.

Although The New Mutants is a stand-alone story, director Josh Boone apparently confirmed the team would’ve appeared in the X-Mansion in an early version of the script. The mutant horror adventure seems to be one of the unluckiest comic book movies of all time after facing numerous delays thanks to Disney acquiring Fox and the current pandemic. Perhaps if it followed Boone’s earlier draft it might have been more of a priority, since it supposedly featured two key members of the X-Men.

Boone reportedly confirmed that an early outline of the story took place in the X-Mansion with both James McAvoy and Alexandra Shipp returning to play Professor X and Storm respectively. It was even intended to take place in the X-Men: Apocalypse timeline but was apparently dropped to ensure it completely stood away from previous movies. The reveals seemingly came from the latest issue of SFX Magazine. It’s not clear whether the studio didn’t like the idea or if the director changed his mind, but it’s certainly an interesting idea.

Do you think Professor X and Storm should’ve appeared in the film? Are you still excited to see Josh Boone’s X-Men film when it arrives in theaters? Sound-off in the comments below!
