Josh Brolin may be out as Hal Jordan, but is he out on the DC Universe? The iconic actor speaks on passing up the role of Green Lantern.
One of the biggest pieces of DC Universe news in recent memory is Kyle Chandler getting cast as Hal Jordan. It was a hectic week of news and debunks that all kicked off with a rumor that Josh Brolin was offered the leading role in Lanterns. Yet the offer was just that: a rumor. That is, until now, when during a recent interview Brolin broke his silence on turning down the role of Green Lantern.
“You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay,” Brolin told Comicbook.com in a recent chat. “It’s working out. Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he’s wonderful, actually.”
While confirmation of a rumor is always fun, it’s good to hear that Josh Brolin seems to hold no ill will toward Kyle Chandler for taking the Lanterns role in his stead. Given the amount of stink Ryan Reynolds has put on the Green Lantern brand, particularly Hal Jordan, it’s understandable that any actor wouldn’t take the part. However, it may not be the only part Brolin is interested in regarding the DC Universe.
Is Josh Brolin Up For A Different DC Universe Role?
When the rumor first broke that Josh Brolin was up for the role of Hal Jordan in Lanterns, many fans were disappointed. This is because they felt Brolin was a much better fit for other characters, even only considering the world of Green Lantern. Luckily, it seems the failed offer hasn’t dissuaded him from joining the DC Universe down the line, giving a cryptic tease of a potential future with the burgeoning franchise.
“And, you know,” Brolin simply stated when speaking of turning down the role of Green Lantern. “We’ll see what’s down the line, man.”
Even though Josh Brolin won’t be playing Green Lantern, he’s no stranger to the DC Universe, having previously played the iconic western vigilante Jonah Hex. Brolin has also always been more of a film actor than TV, meaning the role of Hal Jordan in Lanterns may have simply not been a good fit for him schedule-wise or style-wise. And with the reboot giving the franchise a fresh slate, there’s no telling what other roles he could pick up in the future!
