Is Josh Brolin playing Darkseid? The actor posted a cryptic image on his Instagram stories as rumors swirl about a new role for him in the DC Universe.
It seems Josh Brolin just can’t catch a break from the DC Universe fandom. The actor first made headlines late last year when it was reported that he was up for the role of Hal Jordan in Lanterns. While he would eventually turn down the role, he never left the minds of fans who wanted him to play yet another comic character. Those desires flared up once more in recent days as a rumor from a reliable insider suggested that DC Studios is still eyeing the actor for a role.
Josh Brolin has only added more fuel to this fire. Off the heels of the rumor, prolific fan-artist Boss Logic posted a photo of Darkseid, joking that Brolin could do “the funniest thing” if he got cast in the DC Universe. This image was silently reposted by Brolin, leading many to assume that the actor may be in talks to play the DC Universe’s first big bad.

Is Josh Brolin Playing Darkseid?
It’s important to note that James Gunn has stated, on multiple occasions, that he does not plan on casting projects without a finished script. Given the current lineup of the DC Universe has no projects that could feature Darkseid, it’s not likely that Josh Brolin has officially been offered the role of Ruler of Apokolips.
However, given DC Studios clearly has an interest in bringing Josh Brolin to play some kind of role, it’s possible that James Gunn and Peter Safran have sticky-noted his headshot for when they do need to cast Darkseid. Given that Ray Porter was cast as DC’s most evil entity only a few years ago, that time may not come for a while.
