Josh Gad took to social media to re-confirm that he will not play the Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
Long before official casting details for Matt Reeves’ The Batman were revealed, Josh Gad posted several images and comments on social media that led many to believe the Frozen star was campaigning or being considered for the role of the Penguin. However, Josh Gad later confirmed he was not going to portray The Penguin in The Batman and later reports revealed Warner Bros. was eyeing Jonah Hill or Seth Rogen for the role of the criminal mastermind.
With the recent news that Jonah Hill was no longer in talks to join the cast of The Batman, some fans have suggested Josh Gad could or should be in the running to play the Penguin. However, Josh Gad reiterated that he is not going to play the Penguin in The Batman in a message posted on his official Twitter account.

Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Paul Dano as the Riddler. Westworld star Jeffrey Wright was recently reported to be in talks for the role of Commissioner James Gordon.
The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
