Avengers director Joss Whedon is the latest alumnus of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to respond to Martin Scorsese’s criticisms of the franchise.

In a recent tweet, Joss Whedon responded to Martin Scorsese’s comparisons of Marvel films to theme park attractions. In the tweet, Joss Whedon cites Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn and his emotional involvement in bringing both of his films to life as a means of disagreement with Martin Scorsese’s sentiments.

James Gunn, whom shared his thoughts on Martin Scorsese’s criticisms of Marvel movies also replied to Joss Whedon to express his gratitude for his sentiment:

Both Joss Whedon and James Gunn have a strong disagreement with Martin Scorsese’s thoughts on Marvel movies being considered cinema, but even with that in mind the two remain reverent of the legendary filmmaker’s work.
