Nathan Fillion revealed that he would still work with The Avengers director Joss Whedon despite the filmmaker’s controversies.

Joss Whedon has been subject to much controversy in recent years. Notable for his work on the cult TV series Firefly with Nathan Fillion and Marvel Studios’ first two Avengers movies, he jumped over to the DC Extended Universe sometime after Age of Ultron and directed some reshoots for the theatrical cut of Justice League, which disappointed many fans and led to some public statements from Cyborg actor Ray Fisher, who alleged that Whedon was an abusive leader during reshoots.

Other controversies regarding Avengers director Joss Whedon also arose, including statements from Charisma Carpenter and Sarah Michelle Gellar of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame that corroborated some of Ray Fisher’s claims of toxic behavior as a creative force on set. Despite the controversies, one of Whedon’s frequent collaborators Nathan Fillion expressed that he would still want to work with him again in the future.

In an interview with the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Nathan Fillion explained the following regarding a potential future collaboration with Joss Whedon in the future:

“I read that article, and nowhere in there at any point in time did he mention Firefly. I had an entirely – that was not my experience with that man… I mean, listen by his own admission that guy’s a work in progress and I appreciate that…I would work with Joss again in a second. I would work with him again in a second.”

Nathan Fillion Still Has Respect For Joss Whedon.

Besides Firefly, Nathan Fillion worked with the Avengers director on projects such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and Much Ado About Nothing. Although Fillion claims that he had mostly positive experiences with Joss Whedon, it doesn’t necessarily negate the statements that others have made against him in the past. Just because a person may have gotten along well with one individual doesn’t necessarily mean the behavior is consistent with others.
