Marvel Studios has finally confirmed Jude Law as Kree Starforce Commander Yon-Rogg in a recently released featurette for Captain Marvel.
Since Marvel Studios cast Jude Law for Captain Marvel, there’s been much speculation around which character he would play. There were a lot of rumors saying that Jude Law would play either Mar-Vell, or Kree Starforce Commander Yon-Rogg. Even though a lot of Captain Marvel merchandise already spoiled that Jude Law would indeed play Yon-Rogg, Marvel Studios has finally confirmed his role in this cast featurette for Captain Marvel. Check it out:
In Marvel comics, Yon-Rogg is a Colonel in the Imperial Kree Army. When he meets Mar-Vell, the first iteration of the Captain Marvel character, he feels jealous when his love interest falls in love for the superhero. Soon after Yon-Rogg’s jealousy turns into hatred and starts his personal campaign to see Mar-Vell dead. Mar-Vell defeats Yon-Rogg although readers would later find out that he wasn’t dead but became the villain Magnitron. Magnitron would later face Carol Danvers, who already became Captain Marvel.
It’s almost certain that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will show us a rather different origin story for Jude Law’s Yon-Rogg as Carol Danvers’ Kree mentor which will allegedly turn into a villain soon after as he finally did in the comics.
