New concept art from Justice League reveals an early look for the Atlanteans.

One of the highlights of Justice League was that it gave us brief, but populated looks at some key DC Extended Universe locales like Themyscira and Atlantis. While we were already privy to the ripe beauty of Themyscira as we received a full-fledged version of it in Wonder Woman, we were quite unaware of the serenity of Atlantis. In Justice League, we briefly saw Aquaman’s native land and with it, we also saw some of its residents who would later appear in Arthur Curry’s first cinematic solo outing.

The designs set up in Justice League paved the way for Aquaman, which primarily took place in the underwater mecca. With Justice League and Aquaman behind us, and as we look to the future of the DC Extended Universe, we can take a look at some of the early designs of the Atlanteans. Concept artist Constantine Sekeris took to Instagram to show off an early design of an Atlantean for Justice League. Be sure to swipe right to see the complete design.

The concept art highlights all the angles one could need to show off a fish-humanoid with a bevy of gills. In the caption, the concept artist notes how the images above were quickly produced via photoshop and were later expanded upon. Atlantis residents such as these appeared more prominently in Aquaman, which gave us a breath-taking look at the underwater city.

But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, the film stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
