Is the Justice League already on its way to the DC Universe? The latest report reveals how the franchise plans to lead up to its crossover event.

Ever since it was announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran would be rebooting the DC Universe, fans have been salivating at the prospect of seeing the Justice League on the silver screen. The team hasn’t had a properly new film in theaters since 2017, and that project ended up being so controversial that it well and truly killed the last incarnation of the franchise.

Which means that, if James Gunn and Peter Safran are going to bring the Justice League back to theaters, they’re going to have to do it right. There’s been a lot of theories of how this could take place, from first doing a World’s Finest film with Batman and Superman, to adapting the Justice League of America before adapting the original team. However, with the recent success of Superman, it seems the larger plans for the DC Universe are finally starting to take shape.

DC Studios’ Plan For The Justice League

The latest report from The Wall Street Journal gave fans some insight on the release schedule James Gunn and Peter Safran have laid out for the DC Universe. This includes an ambitious plan for three films (two live-action and one animated) a year, along with shows. However, this breakneck pace when it comes to worldbuilding has intention, with the studio planning to reestablish its heaviest hitters for an eventual Justice League film.

It’s certain the news that James Gunn and Peter Safran want to make a Justice League film isn’t going to set the internet on fire. However, the idea of giving each character their own DC Universe project before it shows that the studio isn’t concerned about “catching up” with Marvel like the last incarnation. Rather, they’re setting out to tell powerful stories that build to something greater.
