The Boys get serious!

Is The Boys packing an emotional gut punch? Karl Urban warns fans that the first episode of season 5 may hold more surprises than fans are expecting.

After nearly seven years, The Boys is finally coming to a close with season 5 next year. Yet it seems fans are finally calling the show’s bluff ahead of the finale. While the show has always been rather wanton with its use of violence and language (thank you Karl Urban), it has also been rather careful not to kill off any of its major characters.

Though the tide may be turning on that tendency as the series heads into its final stretch. Karl Urban recently made an appearance at FAN EXPO (via ScreenRant). During his panel, the actor teased that The Boys is going to hit the ground running when season 5 finally hits streaming. Which means that the show’s premiere may have a some major moments that keep fans’ jaws on the floor.

“I think we throw you in the deep end, but in a good way, because the stakes are as high as they can possibly be. I think the real thing to look out for in season 5 on an emotional level, as far as the characters go, and your attachments to characters, there’s going to be some big hits early on in the very first episode.”

“That’s probably what is going to make you realize, ‘Oh, this s–t is for real.’ The stakes couldn’t be higher, and anybody’s fair game.”

Who Will Die In The Boys Season 5?

While Karl Urban is teasing that The Boys will go places fans don’t expect, there are a few characters that are almost certainly safe. It’s all-but-assured that Hughie, Butcher, and Homelander will make it to the finale. In addition, characters key to their stories such as Starlight, Ryan, and Firecracker will all probably survive through the midpoint of season 5.

As for who may be on the chopping block, The Deep is a major fan-favorite who will almost certainly die in season 5. For all his charm, the character has mostly been reduced to henchman status in recent seasons. So killing him off in the premiere could be a way to prove that the team behind The Boys isn’t playing around when it comes to killing their darlings.

The Boys season 5 is set to release next year on Amazon Prime Video. Stay tuned for the latest news surrounding the series!
