Producer On Keanu Reeves Almost Appearing In Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Hobbs and Shaw’

Keanu Reeves was almost set to appear in Dwayne Johnson’s Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw.

Keanu Reeves has dominated the industry these past few years thanks to his ineffable charm, positive attitude, and lead role in the John Wick franchise. Seeing as John Wick is singlehandedly one of the most prominent interesting franchise of this decade, it makes sense for Keanu Reeves to venture out and join other action franchises. It turns out that Keanu Reeves was in talks to star in Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and Shaw which premiered earlier this summer to critical and commercial acclaim.

Earlier in Hobbs and Shaw‘s release cycle, it was rumoured that Keanu Reeves was actually in the Dwayne Johnson film, however this proved not to be the case. The mastermind behind the Fast and Furious franchise, Chris Morgan, who produces the films and is the head writer for most of them, sat down with Comicbook.com ahead of Hobbs and Shaw’s home video debut on November 5. In the interview, Chris Morgan revealed that Keanu Reeves was close to going toe to toe with Dwayne Johnson in Hobbs and Shaw.

“I would say I’m a huge, huge Keanu Reeves fan. I’ve worked with him a couple of times, and he’s just the coolest dude. I love him. So, I’ve been trying to get him in the franchise for a while, and it’s always schedule doesn’t work out, or something happens. And so for Hobbs & Shaw, we had been talking to him about it early on, and then at the end of the day, it just didn’t manage to work out. But listen, would I love to see Keanu fighting with or against Hobbs & Shaw? Yes. Am I going to do everything I can to make that happen moving forward? Oh, yeah.”

Obviously, Chris Morgan would love to see Keanu Reeves join Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in the franchise, but as always, scheduling doesn’t always work-out. After all, Keanu Reeves has had a busy few years. That being said, the door isn’t closed on Keanu Reeves joining Dwayne Johnson down the road when Hobbs and Shaw gets its inevitable sequel.

Here is the official synopsis for Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs and Shaw:

Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down. But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves. Hobbs & Shaw blasts open a new door in the Fast universe as it hurtles action across the globe, from Los Angeles to London and from the toxic wasteland of Chernobyl to the lush beauty of Samoa.

Directed by David Leitch from a script written by Chris Morgan, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, and Helen Mirren.
