Keanu Reeves Drops A Cryptic Timeline Hint For ‘The Matrix 4’

Keanu Reeves gives us a new hint as to when 'The Matrix 4' takes place.

Keanu Reeves has dropped a cryptic hint on when his upcoming film, The Matrix 4, takes place.

Since it was revealed that The Matrix stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss were going to star in the upcoming sequel, many have wondered just how that was going to happen. Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity clearly did not survive the events of the third film, having been impaled by metal rods during a ship crash. While his death wasn’t confirmed, the ending of The Matrix Revolutions heavily implied that Keanu Reeves’ Neo did not survive his final battle with Hugo Weaving’s Agent Smith. Because of this, it does beg the question as to when The Matrix 4 takes place.

During a recent interview with the BBC, Keanu Reeves was tightlipped about just what was going on in The Matrix 4. He revealed that the film was not a prequel but did hit at something other than a direct sequel:

“No, no. No going in the past. It’s another version, a call to wake up and it has some great action. All will be revealed.”

What do you all make of Keanu Reeve’s words? What time period do you think The Matrix 4 takes place in? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

The Matrix and its two sequels collectively earned a total of $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss portrayed Neo and Trinity, respectively, in all three chapters of the film series, each of which were directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski.

Directed by Lana Wachowski from a script she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel, the upcoming sequel, The Matrix 4 stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Eréndira Ibarra, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Priyanka Chopra, Andrew Caldwell, and Brian J. Smith.

The Matrix 4 is currently set to hit theaters on April 1, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Keanu Reeves’ upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
